INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON COASTAL TOURISM

On 24th November 2015, the International Workshop on Coastal Tourism was successfully held by Faculty of Tourism Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities), University of Kent and University of Bradford in the conference room 506, building E of University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

There were the attendances of British Council’s representatives – project sponsor; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh – Vice-rector of University of Social Sciences and Humanities; lectures of Faculty of Tourism Studies, foreign guests from United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Japan; Vietnamese tourism experts from Institute For Tourism Development Research, National Economics University, Hanoi National University of Education, Thang Long University, and representatives of some tourism enterprises of Responsible Tourism Club.

In the seminar, Dr. Mark Hampton (University of Kent), Dr. Julia Jeyacheya (University of Bradford) and Dr. Pham Hong Long presented research results on coastal tourism in Halong. Pros and cons about management mechanism, natural resources, infrastructure, socio-economic impact were discussed as well. Besides that, human resource which is one of big deal affecting the service quality of Halong coastal tourism was mentioned and given specific evidences by Dr. Jeyacheya.

Besides the presentation of research findings about Halong Tourism, there was also the attendance of Ms. Helen Brunt and her very detailed and accurate presentation about “Coastal tourism – Lesson from Malaysia”. That presentation gave a more comprehensive view about sustainable tourism development.

The workshop gave coastal tourism researchers additional precious and helpful information. It was also an opportunity for the guests to build long lasting cooperation relations.
